The Pain Journey
The start of constant pain entered my life unexpectedly in early 2015, starting with intermittent tailbone discomfort after a long flight back from Southeast Asia. I shrugged it off, attributing it to sitting too long. In 2018, the pain grew, spreading to other parts of my body. It remained, and I knew I needed to seek medical attention.
A specialist diagnosed me with mechanical arthritis in my sacroiliac joint area, but the root cause remained elusive. In 2022, my primary care physician speculated that I might have arthralgia, a condition characterized by widespread pain without inflammation or an autoimmune disorder. Another specialist that same year claimed I had fibromyalgia, which is related to widespread chronic pain, fatigue, and insomnia.
The Search for Balance & Relief
I’ve tried countless treatments—both medical and holistic—hoping for relief, but I always ended up back at square one. I've explored every avenue, from physical therapy to dietary changes to various holistic practices.
In 2019, I modified my diet, eliminating inflammation-causing foods, but the journey to finding the right balance is ongoing. By 2022, I began a mixture of pescatarian and plant-based diets. In 2024, I've been trying to refrain from gluten and deep-fried foods.
Throughout this journey, as frustrating as it's been, I’m thankful I never turned to opioids or addictive medications, opting instead for a more natural approach to pain management.
Lessons Learned & Revelations
Living with chronic pain without finding a lasting solution has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life. There were days when the pain was so intense that I felt hopeless, anxious, and down.
During these moments, I often turned to prayer, asking God to reveal the purpose behind the pain.
Here's what was revealed to me:
This experience has made me resilient.
Suffering is not the answer. I will continue finding a remedy that works. I won't give up!
Maintaining healthy boundaries for my physical and mental health has been crucial.
I have to take care of myself before I can care for others.
I have met many holistic mentors and practitioners who have been instrumental in this journey.
Slow down and pace myself.
Grace, patience, and forgiveness have become essential to my healing process.
More to Learn!
I am open to learning from others to expand my wisdom and knowledge. If anyone is battling a chronic condition, please share your journey and ways that have helped you cope. I would love to hear from you!
Cheers!
